So a while back I said I was going to take a sewing lesson with Tess Vigil, the owner of 50 Dresses By Tess. Well, I followed through with that promise and I loved it! And I even got to pick my project. My first sewing project I was to make a pair of patterned shorts. I got super fun blue and white geometric fabric from Fancy Tiger Crafts on S. Broadway and brought it over to Tess’s studio. In less that 90 minutes Tess taught me the basics and I ended up with some super cute shorts! This is what we did to get the job done:
I met Tess’s dog Pablo which was definitely necessary! He is so cute!
We cut out a paper pattern for my shorts.
I cut the fabric and found that the fabric I brought was a little bit see through so we added a peach colored lining! Problem solved!
All of the materials were ready, so I began sewing and surging my shorts.
Time to fold the top over so there’s room for the elastic.
Sewing over the hole for the elastic was a tiny mistake. Just take out a few stitches!
Now comes the time consuming job of snaking the elastic through the hole.
Try on the shorts. The waist band is too big so cut the elastic and resew it.
Try on the shorts a second time. Perfect fit! Sew the hole of the waistband.
Finally, be very proud because they look pretty cute for my first time sewing!
If you don’t know how to sew and would like to learn how, you can schedule a lesson with Tess by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would also recommend coming to your lesson with an idea of what you’d like to create. Also, come with fabric/material which you can get from many places, one of my favorites being Fancy Tiger Crafts! Don’t forget to sign up for a lesson!
